The wire in the blood has many areas of textual analysis within the clip of the TV programme to display the different genders involved.
Camera shots;
First it is displayed
in the camera shots in the first scene, where Tony is speaking to Alix. An over
the shoulder shot is being used; this could represent the male gaze, showing
that the man is viewing the woman as an object. Another camera shot is used in
the next scene where the camera follows the male character, Tony; this shows
dominance in his character as he proves to be a significant part of the TV
series.
Lighting;
At the beginning of
the clip, we can see that natural lighting is used, when the scene is mainly
focused around the man, the lighting is dark, however in the second scene at
the women’s house we can see the contract of the lighting and how it is light,
with her décor, such as the orange walls. These two scenes show the complete
opposite of one another and show the feminine side of Alix’s house, but the
masculine side of the scene when it is mainly focused around Tony. As often
dark, over powers light this could suggest that Tony is the dominant character
over Alix.
Mise En Scene;
Tony wears all black
throughout the scenes of the series, this shows that he is professional and has
an important part in the series. This is also another way in which the
programme asserts dominance. Gender is also represent when Tony is working out
what has happened, this represents the intelligence of the man and how he works
out what has actually happened, this is not given to the woman, Alix, to work
out as the dominance of the mans intelligent is shown through this way.
This isn't as good as I'd hoped it would be; you clearly haven't updated it despite an in-depth session on this in lesson.
